An ISIS Public Forum on “Reforming Post-Coup Thai Politics: Issues, Priorities and Challenges”, Friday, 3rd October 2014, 08.30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
An ISIS Public Forum on “Reforming Post-Coup Thai Politics: Issues, Priorities and Challenges”, Friday, 3rd October 2014, 08.30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
I have the pleasure of inviting you to participate in a public forum on “Reforming Post-Coup Thai Politics: Issues, Priorities and Challenges”. Details of the program and a reply form are attached. The forum will be held during 08.30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on Friday, 3 October 2014. The venue is The Chumbhot-Pantip Conference Room, 4th Floor Prajadhipok-Rambhaibarni Building, Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University. The issue of reforming Thai politics captured the public imagination during the six months of anti-government street protests as supporters from all sides demanded wide-ranging political reforms. Since the coup on 22 May 2014, the new military-dominated government has pledged to deliver these reforms, mainly through the formation of the National Reform Council. Identifying and prioritizing reform issues in an inclusive fashion are a major challenge to the new government and the NRC. Accordingly, this ISIS public forum will focus on the issues, priorities and challenges facing the government and the NRC in reforming Thai politics. Which issues should the government prioritize? What challenges lie ahead? Will these reforms be durable and sufficient to resolve political conflict and restore a more strengthened democratic system? What might Thai politics look like by the next election? To address these and related questions, we have a prominent line-up of experts and practitioners on a balanced panel from academia, government, politics, and civil society. We hope you will be able to join us. Please kindly note that free parking is limited. However, we have a new public parking building nearby at the Faculty of Political Science Entrance Gate that charges a very small fee. For confirmation of your participation and further information, please contact ISIS staff by telephone at 02.218.7432/3, fax 02.254.0119 or e-mail isisthailand@gmail.com
